Rural Broadband

Land Factor has project managed the installation of cutting-edge technology to speed up rural broadband for its clients in the Tyne Valley and for their commercial and residential tenants. 
  
Despite the Government’s objective for 90% of the UK to have access to 2 Mbps by 2015, large rural areas of Northumberland are still in broadband poverty.

We have now installed radio-link-based broadband which has increased the connection speeds for business tenants at Bywell up to 40Mps download, more than five times the currently-available rate.

Not only does this bring them in line with more broadband-rich areas of the region but, in doing so, the service should help attract new tenants and businesses to more rural areas.
“Inadequate broadband has a major impact on rural communities,” comments Land Factor Associate Jonathan Landale. “With poor broadband connections, farmers and rural business owners cannot fill in forms for subsidy claims and tax returns on-line. Indeed they can actually be penalised for not doing so.

“The demand for rural offices to have adequate broadband speed is ever increasing. We have recognised that this was a problem which requires a solution in order firstly to keep and secondly to attract new tenants to clients' rural offices. Land Factor has assisted in providing the state-of-the-art broadband service to businesses in South Acomb and Bearl as well as to residents across Bywell and Newton Parish.

“The cost of replacing existing copper cabling with the fibre optics required for high speed broadband means many rural areas have little in the way of internet connectivity and what they do have is often very slow.

“However, Land Factor has worked with Tyneside-based Wildcard Networks to install LiveWave, which has already proved a viable alternative to high-speed fibre-optic broadband.

“We have used state of the art technology provided by Wildcard Networks” said Jonathan, “and have been pleased with the initial results. We are hoping to roll it out further as a cost-effective way to deliver faster and more efficient broadband connectivity to our business tenants.”
