Lee Hall - Valuable Fishing For Sale

Anglers have a rare chance to own one of the prettiest stretches of Englands premier salmon river.

The single bank beat on the North Tyne is the first to come up for sale on the river for many years and is expected to attract buyers from throughout the UK.

Along with the right to fish and own 1,150 yards of the river, two miles upstream from Wark on Tyne, Northumberland, the sale includes around four and a half acres of attractive riverbank and woodland.

The beat has been relatively lightly fished since substantial numbers of salmon first returned to the Tyne in the 1990s, said Hugo Remnant, Associate Director, who is handling the sale.

The annual catch returns show the highest number of salmon caught was 71 in 2006 and the highest number of sea trout was 44 in 2008.

It is also a beautiful and, in some places, dramatic stretch of river and, given how rarely an opportunity like this comes along, we expect considerable interest from anglers.

The number of salmon and sea trout running the river is monitored by the fish counter at Riding Mill with an annual average of more than 32,000 fish.

The 2014 count was 31,223 and the annual catch of salmon on the River Tyne is the highest in England.
